To get more stable readings out of MicroSet, you use longer measurement intervals. But flaws in the escape wheel will still interfere. The graph below shows MicroSet results for a 24 beat average (TIME: 24). The effect of the escape wheel is still strongly reflected in the readings. Even when MicroSet is set to TIME: 24, this clock changes rate by 2-1/2 minutes per day and the readings on the LCD screen will jump from 9590 BPH to 9460 BPH. This is not an error in MicroSet. This is MicroSet showing you what the clock is really doing when measured every 24 beats. In this case, because the number of teeth on the escape wheel is 25, a pattern develops and the readings you would see on the MicroSet LCD screen would seem especially bizarre ... there's a big jump between every other reading.
