You would never measure a clock by measuring every single beat. But every reading you take is composed of an average that includes the huge error inherent in the escape wheel. In the following graph, MicroSet was set to TIME: 2, a reading of every two beats. This produces a much smoother average rate. The clock now can be seen to speed up and slow down by 18 minutes per day with each rotation of the escape wheel. As before, the pattern in each cycle is identical. But the readings are too variable to be useful.
