You can escape these problems by using the computer interface. This is because the computer software can average the readings over time. You can tell MicroSet to show you a "Running Average" of the rate. This is what a clock shows you on its hands .... the accumulated change in time.

The graph below is the same 24-beat reading we just saw, but displayed on the computer as a Running Average. At the start of the graph, the readings are still jumpy. But as more readings accumulate, an average develops and the jumpiness of each reading contributes less and less to the combined average. You can see how the jumpy readings of the escape wheel begin to disappear over time. At the end of the graph below, the rate is changing by only two or three seconds per day. This is one of the big benefits of using the computer interface.
